From Chaos to Purpose

"We must be willing to let go of the life we have planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us."- Joesph Campbell

This is a message that kept ringing loud for me at the end of last year, and one that drove me toward creating the recently released Purpose e-Journal.

Let me take you back to November of 2017, when I started leading a group of 18 budding entrepreneurs through a course on launching their business. In fact the group was titled "Biz Launch" with Lady V. It was set to take place over six weeks and outlined to provide participants with all the tools necessary to launch. We reviewed licensing, product vs. service and several other business tools. The feedback from the training was amazing and many of them completed the course ready to go. But one thing was glaringly evident as the course took place. Which was...

It doesn’t matter how many business tools you have if you don’t understand your PURPOSE. Because without purpose you won’t have the fire and dedication necessary to effectively use the tools you’ve been given.
— Vanika Lewis

You see, Purpose is the fuel that will wake you up each morning and give you energy at the end of a long day. And business operating tools are a means to translate that purpose into success.

As I worked with my group participants over the six week period I realized that they had come up with great business ideas, but had yet to tap into what their PURPOSE was. They were simply looking for a means to access quick money. Nothing is wrong with that if you are in a situation that requires accessing quick coins, but it cannot be something looked at on a long term basis. And let's be REAL.... they were doing something that I was guilty of doing before! LOL! In fact, if you take a look back at my Facebook profile over the last 10 years you will see that I have attempted a baking business, graphic designing, and photography. Things I am all great at by the way, but they are hobbies, not my PURPOSE! I enjoy doing them, and usually get great feedback, but they are not tied to my calling. Thus, when the demand got great I retreated. That's what happens when you chase business and quick coins versus purpose, you create a life of CHAOS and frustration.

I remember in fact, when my baking business "Baked by V" was taking off. I was getting requests for hundreds of cupcakes, pies and cakes. I even began paying my daughters to assist me and purchasing equipment for transporting large orders. But as the business grew so did my frustration. The thing that once brought me joy, began to make me angry and stimulated chaos; as I had not invested in taking a thorough view at what the impact of launching a baking business would look like. And even worse, I launched it thinking about the money I would make versus the impact I would have. I was focused on business and not purpose.

Purpose, is a collision of gifts, life experience and personality. It is the very thing in which you were created to do, and once you tap into it passion is activated. When you discover purpose you will pursue it regardless of how tired you are, how difficult it is, or what investments are needed. You become hungry to fulfill the calling that that was birthed inside of you from the very beginning. When you are operating in purpose you transition from chaotically searching for a way to make money, and intentionally aligning ways to impact lives. Purposes may produce a product and/or a service, but they are merely tools that are used to impact the lives of people you are assigned to.

My hope for each of you, is to discover your purpose. To find the very thing that you were CREATED to do, and to ignite the passion laying dormant inside of you. I want you to move from chaotically trying get a few coins, and to intentionally living on PURPOSE!

If you don't know what your purpose is, and you desire to, I encourage you to get a copy of my Purpose e-Journal. It was created just for you!

Purposefully Yours,
